Cicadas Emerge T-Shirt

There’s nothing quite like the roar of cicadas (something between the sound of a band saw and a returning wave) and experiencing it is a truly unforgettable experience. Cicada emergences are cacophonous and leave behind a steady crunch beneath the foot as our winged friends complete their lengthy life cycles. Living in a place with only periodical cicadas, perhaps it’s a case of absence making the heart grow fonder… but I look forward to those summers where I know a brood will surface once more.

Playing on themes of periodic emergence I’ve entwined my little swarm in kurinji flowers, a rare bloomer from the blue hills of South India. It covers the landscape only once every 12 years, and much like our periodic cicada here in North America; its slow life cycle reminds us that there is a patience in the natural world; a time that exists outside our own. Dark green seemed a fitting choice for this comfy tee; the color of rich growth and damp forest and things crawling up with life from some deep place.
